Officials deny conflict of interest in choice of consultant

FAYETTEVILLE -- A city contract with the economic development consultant Eva Klein and Associates is not a conflict of interest, city officials decided Tuesday. And even if there were a perceived conflict, the contract for an economic development study has already been signed and can not be breached, said Kit Williams, the city attorney.

At the last meeting the city, along with the University of Arkansas, entered a $150,000 consulting contract with the Klein firm. Each body would pay $75,000, with the goal of bringing in an outside observer to aid in giving Fayetteville a clear economic development strategy.
