Take a minute, if you will, and consider public education as a whole. You know, it’s true — public education absolutely does affect us all ! Since 2001, I have focused my volunteering efforts and many hours of research and attendance at the Fayetteville School District level, which includes our seven Board of Education decision-makers. How these elected school board members make decisions and vote on important district issues certainly affects our students, our city and the rest of us. So, as we might encourage our children and grandchildren towards the completion of their homework, we must set the wonderful example of completing our own civic homework.

As this Tuesday’s 9 / 16 election fast approaches, it’s time for all good voters to come to the aid of our local public education system. Since the Fayetteville school board election involves the two at-large seats, all registered voters living anywhere in the school district are entitled to vote in both races. Early voting will continue through Monday at the County Clerk’s office from 8: 00-4: 30. If you have questions on your eligibility to vote, please call the County Clerk’s office at 444-1711 or 444-1716 prior to election day, if at all possible. Because there are only eight polling places open with Tuesday’s election (7: 30-7: 30 ), it will be necessary for each voter to identify which polling place is their proper one. It is my hope that the Northwest Arkansas Times will be able to print a color school board election zone map to include the various precincts and polling places for the education of their readers on or before election day. As we continue to forge through this very important election season, please allow me to offer a recommendation of whom I feel is the best-qualified candidate in each of these two Fayetteville school board races. For Seat 1, without a doubt, my vote will be cast for Jim Halsell. And for Seat 2, I will be choosing James (Jim ) McGinty. So, simply stated, I’m supporting the two “ Jims. ” And I support you, fellow voters, for completing your own civic homework in the days and weeks ahead. Linda (Ruble ) Ralston
