Center Street work on Friday afternoon September 18, 2008

Please click on images to ENLARGE photos of completed paving of part of West Center Street under which the Tanglewood Branch flows. The oldest remaining part of the original tunnel that directed water south from the downtown area of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and the eastern slope of the University of Arkansas toward the Town Branch of the West Fork of the White River recently collapsed and had to be replaced. The Sweetser crew was given two weeks to dig out the old rock-lined tunnel and replace it with a new concrete culvert. Water, sewer and telephone lines under the street also required partial replacement.
While traffic may be routed away from the site to make sure the macadam dries without damage this weekend, the route is expected to be inspected and open by sometime Monday.
