More signs for political candidates and issues will be allowed in Fayetteville, beginning within a few days.
Ward 4 ’s Shirley Lucas cast the lone “ no ” vote against the amendment that will allow residents to have in their yards as many signs as there are candidates or issues.
“ I just feel that we should have as many signs as we want to in our yards, especially like an election year like we have right now, ” said Adella Gray, Ward 1 alder man, who brought the amendment to the council.
Lucas said she was concerned with the large number allowed because of the potential for clutter. She said many visitors would be coming to Fayetteville this fall for ballgames, Bikes, Blues & BBQ, and festivals.
“ I’d just hate for them to come and see a cluttered city, ” Lucas said.

The City Council tabled discussion of dredging the Boardwalk pond and an appeal for the Amberwood Place residential planned zoning district, both at the request of the parties involved.
