I've never seen this before, although I've seen the trumpet honeysuckle in bloom many times. This stage of growth is almost as beautiful as the full bloom.

I saw this patch of flowering vines last Earth Day. The lady leading the tour spotted just where you said it had bloomed the year before. Can't you just buy some seed and plant it all over the place and let it bury the Japanese honeysuckle?
