The view west from a bridge on Stirman Avenue bridge shows in the background one of the several houses flooded in 2004 near the Brooks Avenue/South Garland Avenue bridge over the west arm of the Town Branch of the West Fork of the White River. The 2004 flooding occurred after vegetation had been removed from land adjacent to the same stream near the intersection of Eighteenth Street and Beechwood Avenue. New construction continues in the area as well as across I540. The potential for higher flooding grows as the amount of pavement and other impervious surfaces increases.
