Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration
WHAT: Omni Center for Peace, Justice and Ecology Annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration: Remembering Victims of War/Celebrating Workers for Peace
WHEN: Sunday, August 10, 2008, Gather at 4:45p.m. for pre-procession activities. Program at the Fulbright Peace Fountain begins at 6:00p.m.
WHERE: Begin the evening at the intersection of Arkansas Avenue and Lafayette with special pre-procession family activities, music from the Dickson Street Ramblers. Cold drinks will be provided. At 5:45, the procession will follow the giant peace crane up the sidewalk leading toward the front of Old Main, and around the building to the Fulbright Fountain.

Hiroshima Memoirs
Keynote Speaker: Adolph Reed Jr., Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of several books, including Class Notes: Posing as Politics and Other Thoughts on the American Scene and Stirrings in the Jug: Black Politics in the Post-Segregation Era. He has a reputation as one of the most intelligent, controversial essayists writing about politics today.
We will close the evening with a special early kick-off of Video Underground with the showing of “A New Island” produced and directed by University of Arkansas professor Dale Carpenter that tells the story of the people of the Marshall Islands who have settled in Springdale, Arkansas. Dr. Carpenter will be on hand for discussion following the film. Video Underground is at Disciples United Campus Ministry, 902 W. Maple.
Tables from organizations promoting peace, justice and environmental protection will be set up near the Fulbright Fountain. Set up time: 4:00p.m.
