Clearing steep hillsides and railroad embankments never a good idea: Beaver Lake doesn't need anymore nasty siltation

Please click on image to see silty runoff from a slope where revegetation may never occur. This slope was cleared of trees and grass and shrubs in late 2005. Construction finally occurred in 2008, but the turf grass just washes away. The photo was made between 3 and 4 p.m. today after a brief shower. What is it doing now?
Town Branch neighbors warned developers about the importance of leaving protective vegetation along the railroad as early as 2003, but the contractors stripped and dredged all the land anyway.
