Crosswalk Safety Awarness must be remembered every day

Please click on images to ENLARGE view of scenes from Crosswalk Safety Awareness Day on October 8, 2008.

Top photo shows a family crossing College Avenue at Dickson Street. Although there is a traffic signal light at the busy intersection, it is also marked as a crosswalk and drivers MUST be cautious. Traffic moves above the speed limit in that area constantly, even with construction going on to the south. Don Connor and Jeff Erf held signs there Wednesday morning reminding drivers that pedestrians will be crossing frequently.

In the second photo, Beth Presley and Alderman Lioneld Jordan display safety reminders Wednesday morning at an extremely dangerous crosswalk adjacent to Fayetteville High School and the University of Arkansas campus at Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Garland Avenue.

In the third photo, Fayetteville community-development officials, Ricky Williams (out of photo at left), Yolanda Fields and Chad Ball remind motorists near the downtown square of the need to watch for people using the crosswalks there.
