Mourning Cloak butterfly on southwest corner of the Global Campus building Saturday afternoon, March 3, 2012, showed itself as temperature starting falling in downtown Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Mourning cloaks are known to appear early in the spring, but spring has sprung early in 2012. The species' caterpillars' thrive on the foliage of various trees common in Fayetteville, including the hackberry.
