Indian Hemp (dogbane) and common spidier milkweed are similar before they bloom

Not only are the leaves of those two plants similar when they are young but also your photo makes clear how crowded plants can be and still succeed in nature. That little milkweed appears that its roots must be entangled with those of the dogbane that almost shades it.
