Please click on image of one of the places where the rapid downstream flash floods on Kitty Creek begin far uphill on the north side of Zion Road. This is what the city calls an "infill" project. It is about 5 miles from downtown and about the same distance from downtown Springdale, barely over the ridge that splits the watershed of two tributaries of the Illinois River, Lake Fayetteville on Clear Creek to the north and Mud Creek to the south. Those two streams combine on the south side of Johnson. How much stormwater detention or retention was included in the several such massive projects in the Kitty Creek watershed?
Please click on image to see condo or apartment buildings practically hanging over the Kitty Creek channel south of Zion Road and sending all their stormwater directly into the creek and downstream to threaten older homes with flooding. The outlet box is rectangular and behind the brush along the wall.
Please click on image to ENLARGE view of one of the several big pipes that bring water south under Zion Road to pour down the small channel of the Kitty Creek.
