This is a horrid waste of taxpayer money, both city and AP tax money. But it is good that some local workers are benefiting. That is the only possible way this can help the local economy. It isn't doing the surrounding businesses a bit of good and never will. A few people may come spend a buck to see what it looks like. But those who normally come for Farmer's Market will be the main ones seeing it. Someone who accepts the mayor's excuse that the streets and sidewalks were in bad shape and the planter boxes needed replacement might be impressed. But the regulars know the square was in no need of "remodeling" — your word for this project. I see now why you use that word instead of "renovation," would would imply necessary change to improve it. This just pulled a lot of city workers off needed worksites and created a months' long mess and took a half a million dollars out of an incredibly tight city budget.

Wouldn't it be nice to be a stonemason! I hope those guys are charging top dollar. We wouldn't want to come in under budget!

Come on! There was a crack in one of the curbs or something. It wasn't there last summer but it was there before they finished bulldozing the place.
