Free "Fix" For Fayetteville Pets
Fayetteville Animal Services is celebrating national Spay/Neuter Awareness Month by offering free spay and neuter surgeries to city residents on three different dates in February and March. "We want to encourage people to take action before they call need to call the shelter because their cat or dog just had a litter," says Shelter Superintendent, Justine Lentz. "Spring is a really high intake time for us and we want to make it as easy on people as possible to help prevent unwanted puppies and kittens," Lentz continued.
Interested people must come to the shelter with proof of Fayetteville residency. Shelter staff will then set them an appointment on one of the following three dates: Saturday, February 16th, Friday, March 1st, and Friday, March 15th, 2013. The shelter expects to be able to perform a minimum of thirty surgeries each date and they will accept appointments for both cats and dogs, with a focus on getting as many cats in as possible. Citizens with appointments will be able to drop their pet(s) off the morning of their appointment and pick them up later the same day. The Shelter will begin accepting appointments for the limited free surgeries on Friday, February 1st.
"Fayetteville is an extremely supportive community when it comes to our homeless pets, and Animal Services wants to continue to provide the community with as many opportunities as possible to help put an end to unwanted litters," said Programs Manager, Tony Rankin. Animal Services offers an income-based low cost spay/neuter program for city residents throughout the entire year, and details can be found on the city's website or by calling the shelter at 479-444-3456. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The shelter is located at 1640 South Armstrong Avenue in Fayetteville.
